Regrettably the scheduled speaker is unable to come on Thursday evening but we are very fortunate that Ed Waugh can give his talk:

 

"Wor Bella: Women's Football in the North East During WWI"

 

Ed's talk will commence at as usual at 7.30pm in St. Mary's Parish Centre, Thornhill Road, Thursday 21st October 2021. Visitors Welcome £2. 

 

The brilliant story of heroic WWI Munitionettes who not only selflessly served the war effort on the home front from 1914 to 1918 but also played football to raise money for charity. Hundreds of Munitionette teams were formed nationally, including dozens in the North East. As tens of thousands of people attended the matches female football superstars were born, including Blyth Spartan's Ladies' striker Bella Reay.

 

The world premier of Ed's play "Wor Bella" will take place on Friday 25th March 2022 at Phoenix Theatre , Blyth. Ed is a Tyneside playwright which will be known to many people through his very successful locally productions and writings.
