“NEWCASTLE QUAYSIDE IN THE MEDIEVAL ERA”
To be held on Saturday 5th April 2014 Newcastle Quayside
The Newcastle of 1080 was essentially a fortified frontier town, but by AD 1300 the town had developed a port & was participating in shipping across the North Sea to the Baltic & to Gascony. The talk, by Colm O’Brien, will take a look at the state of things in the years around AD1300 & consider how the growth of the port came about. There will also be a guided tour of Trinity House & the Guildhall.
